I was thinking about rewards, in terms of our fundraising. the other day after practice I was trying to come up w/some ideas. I want to reward players for their participation/high selling, but I'm not sure the best way to go about it. I'm not even sure if it's a good idea. Ha! I bet they'd love a day off from practice as a reward...

Nice quote, by the way...
I think rewards can be a great idea, and also a horrible idea. it all depends on the situation and the execution.

A big Yogi Berra fan, huh? I sort of agree about rewards being a bad idea. But my problem is one of motivation. Finding the best way to ge the squad pumped up for the selling.

You've got one thing right: A day off from practice might be the ultimate reward. Especially the way some of my coaches run practice. Not too sure how well that would fly when it comes to getting them ready for the game. Practice makes perfect...

you can ask any of my players: they love my workouts... especially the running.

Ouch! Running was always the least favorite part of my practices. Actually, come to think of it, there were quite a few parts of practices I didn't like.

Honestly though, I really try and keep my practices fun. Well, as best as I can. I think that the best practices don't always need to be the LONG ones.

A coach that worked for me always used to say this..."Don't confuse activity w/accomplishment." Good words...

That is the key for sure. Between uniforms, equiptment, fees... this whole thing can be really expensive.
